Induction course
On completion of the Foundational Course, that is, from the month of
January onwards, probationary officers of the Indian Revenue Service
undergo professional training. Intense theoretical inputs are given
in Income-tax, Wealth-tax, other Allied General Laws,
Accountancy, Office Procedure (Administrative & Technical) and
Examination & Investigation of Accounts. During training,
probationary officers are sent on field-visits comprising a number
of attachments, namely, with the Indian Parliament, with big
industries and at important field-offices. The objective of this
course is to motivate the officers towards developing the right
social, professional and administrative values besides equipping
them with expert technical knowledge and skills necessary for making
them competent tax administrators.
In addition to
class-room lecture-sessions, the training methods adopted include,
group-discussions, tutorials, workshops, case-studies, seminars,
role-play exercises, quizzes, simulation & in-basket exercises
and panel-discussions. Modern aids such as PCs and video & audio
cassettes are used for effective presentations. Some purposeful
training films have been prepared by the Academy. Formal and
informal counseling is also a part of training at the induction
level. Sessions in Yoga and physical training are regularly held in
the morning to keep the probationary officers physically and
mentally in fine fettle.
Literary & Cultural
Activities
The probationary officers are lead a rich and varied campus life and
to give expression to their latent potentialities. They organize
themselves into a number of clubs and societies which provide them
with different avenues to give expression to their varied talents.
Some of the clubs and societies are -
Cultural Society
Organizes cultural programmes and activities connected with
dramatics, music, etc.
Film Society
Organizes exhibition of films.
Hobbies Club
Organizes discussions on political, economic, and social issues;
quiz programmes; debates, photography and painting activities.
Welfare Society
Runs utility services in the Academy like a cooperative store
(Plaza) and a Cafeteria (Meeting Point).
House Journal Society
Brings out quarterly issues of 'Akademi Kriti' a magazine of general
interest
Facilities
The Academy is self-contained with an Administrative Block, a
Faculty building, a library, a computer center, an auditorium, an
Indoor Sports Complex, hostels, a Mess and a guest house. The
lecture halls are fitted with modern training aids/equipments. There
are good facilities for sports and games. A number of cultural and
recreational clubs are run within the Academy by the
trainee-officers. Hostel accommodation can house over 200 trainees
and a well furnished guest house is provided to accommodate visiting
Faculty.
Library
The Academy library is housed in an exclusive building. There is
extensive reading material on Taxation, Law, Management, History,
Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, Accountancy, Computers and
allied topics. It has a rich collection of about 40,000 books
including those of general interest. Many Indian and foreign
journals on Taxation, Management, Economics and general topics are
also available.
Computer Center :
The Computer Center is equipped with the latest systems with 30 PCs
and an LCD projector. The faculty uses computers for designing
courses & lectures and for developing training material. There
are two reference rooms, one in the Faculty building and the other
in Nalanda Hostel, which have judicial and other software's and
leased line internet connectivity. The Academy also has its own
website http://nadt.gov.in . All the 150 plus PCs in the Academy are
networked.
Facilities
for Sports, Games, Swimming etc.
The probationary officers are actively encouraged to spend some part
of their time on games and sports. As regards outdoor games,
facilities exist for Volley-ball, Basket-ball and Tennis. Facilities
also exist for indoor games like Badminton, Table Tennis, Squash,
Billiards, Caroms, Cards and Chess. A Gymnasium equipped with
machines is available for doing exercises to ensure physical
fitness. A fully equipped swimming pool is also functional.
Hostel
Accommodation
Self-contained residential accommodation is available to all the
trainees. There are three hostels with well-equipped rooms. These
are known as Nalanda, Takshashila and Avantika. Nalanda has 208
rooms whereas Takshashila has 30 rooms. The air-conditioned rooms in
Takshashila have telephones and are used by senior officers.
Avantika has 8 family apartments for long-term courses.
Officers' Mess
The probationary officers run the Officers' Mess on a co-operative
basis on the campus. The Mess is considered not just an eating place
but also a place where officers get together in keeping with the
best traditions of the Service. Formal and informal dinners and
get-togethers are organized from time to time to facilitate social
interaction.
